An electromagnetic brake mounts behind the motor and works as a fail-safe: when power is lost, springs push the brake onto the shaft and lock it, so a load — such as an elevator car — cannot drop during a power cut; when the motor is powered, the brake releases. They are often used for emergency stops and holding loads safely. AVM supplies electromagnetic brakes in Singapore — tell us the motor and torque and we will match the brake.
Electromagnetic brakes are fitted behind the motor on our gear motors.
How does a fail-safe brake work? When power is lost, springs are released automatically and the brake locks the shaft — so the load is held safely.
Where are they used? On lifts, cranes, hoists and machinery that must stop or hold a load safely, including during a power failure.
